FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The League City Owner’s Guide

We stock, fabricate, and install FAAC-compatible welded gate components in League City, with most welding and fabrication jobs running between $280 and $850 installed depending on what broke and how much steel needs to be reworked. Most FAAC welding failures we see involve hinge plates torn from gate frames, cracked operator mounting brackets, or slide-gate track supports that salt air and humidity have eaten through. You usually find the problem the morning the gate won’t swing straight or drags hard at the far end of travel. We can typically get a technician out same day for weld failures that leave the gate hanging or unsecured, and we carry a mobile welder on the truck for exactly that call.

Quick version: if your FAAC gate has a cracked weld, a torn hinge point, or a mounting plate that’s separated from the steel frame, we fix it in place most of the time. If the damage is extensive, we fabricate the replacement section in our League City shop and install it once the fit is confirmed against the existing motor geometry.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

The welding and fabrication work we do on FAAC equipment covers the full range we see in League City driveways and small commercial lots: the FAAC 400 and 402 hydraulic swing operators, the 390 and 391 electromechanical swing arms, the 415 and 770 slide-gate operators, and the C720/C721 models that show up on older HOAs. The welded failure point is rarely the FAAC motor itself. What breaks is the steel around it: the hinge post plate, the operator mounting bracket, the rack mounting surface on a slide gate, or the receiver plate where a swing arm connects to the gate leaf.

Identifying compatibility starts with the FAAC nameplate on the operator and a measurement of the mounting pattern. A 400-series post bracket has different bolt spacing than a 390 bracket, and mixing them puts the arm geometry off by enough to bind the travel. We match the welded repair to the operator’s stroke length and the gate’s weight rating, not just the model number. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for welded steel components, there is no reason to pay FAAC’s branded part markup when we can fabricate a bracket from the same gauge steel with the same hole pattern and a cleaner weld than the factory stamp. For arm internals and hydraulic components, OEM is the better call every time.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags at the hinge side but the hinges themselves look fine. What’s actually happening is usually the weld between the hinge plate and the gate frame has cracked and is flexing under load. The hinge looks intact because the failure is behind it, in the steel.
  • The FAAC operator pushes, the gate hesitates, then jumps forward with a groan. A partially separated mounting bracket lets the arm shift before torque transfers to the gate. The delay is steel bending, not hydraulics lagging.
  • You can see daylight through a weld that used to be solid. This is the obvious one, and it’s worse than it looks: once a crack opens to visible width, water gets in, rust accelerates, and the remaining weld is carrying two or three times its designed load.
  • The gate rattles hard in wind even with the operator locked. Loose or cracked welds at the track supports or hinge plates mean the gate frame is no longer one rigid piece. The rattle is the frame flexing around a failed joint.
  • Fresh rust streaking from a specific point, not generalized surface rust. A cracked weld weeps moisture from inside the joint. When you see a rust line trailing down from one spot, that spot is cracked open under the paint.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In League City, most FAAC welding and fabrication repairs we do land between $280 and $850 installed. The low end is a single cracked weld on an accessible hinge plate: grind it clean, weld it, brace it, done in about an hour. The high end is a fully separated operator mounting post that needs the old steel cut out, a new plate fabricated to the FAAC bolt pattern, and the arm re-aligned to stroke properly. Slide-gate rack replacements fall in the middle, usually $380 to $600, depending on rack length and whether we’re replacing the mounting surface too.

Every weld job includes the same written record we leave on every FAAC service call in League City: what was found, what was welded or fabricated, what the gate does now, and photographs of the finished work. The price is written and handed to you before we strike an arc. Parts and labor are quoted as one flat number, not an hourly rate with a surprise at the end. Our welded repairs are covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld or fabrication fails within a year, we fix it at no charge. Under the Haven Standard, that promise is in writing on the invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can safely check the welds yourself: look at every hinge plate, the operator bracket, and the slide track supports with a flashlight. If you find a crack, mark it with a paint pen and stop there. Welding a gate frame is not a weekend project. Gate steel is under spring tension and load even when the operator is off, and a weld that fails while someone is working under the gate is a crush injury waiting to happen. The other reason we tell League City homeowners not to DIY this: a bad weld on a FAAC mounting point throws off the arm geometry, and then you’re paying for both the weld repair and a new limit switch setup because the gate now over-travels by two inches.

If the gate is still standing and closing, you’ve got time to call us at (346) 787-1751 and get a written price before anyone picks up a torch. If the gate is hanging or dragging, call now. We’ll name what we found, name what it costs, and name what we left behind.
